Rep.

Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) isn’t a fan of drinking from straws, because “that’s what the women in my house do.” The congressman was asked for his take by Fox News’ Johnny Belisario, who quizzed Republican lawmakers in a man-on-the-street video compilation for their opinions on host Jesse Watters’ “rules for men.” Belisario declared, on behalf of Watters: “He says men should not drink out of straws in public, or at all.” While Burchett responded saying “I don’t drink out of a straw, brother,” a social media user quickly pointed out an Instagram post from the congressman’s past .

In the post on his personal account, Burchett is posing with a milkshake in hand, up in the air, with a straw.

“Milkshakes before noon and great responses at the polls in Claiborne and Grainger Counties — can’t beat it!” he posted on Nov. 5 of last year. “The Burchett Gang is running full throttle today.” Rep.

Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) reacted to the Fox News interview in a post on X, asking his followers “Fellas, is it gay to drink out of a straw?” Watters’ “rules for men” went viral in March, when the conservative host listed a number of his masculine pet peeves during “The Five,” including eating soup in public, crossing your legs and drinking with a straw .

In the segment, Watters specifically criticized Tim Waltz, the then-Democratic nominee for vice president, for needing to use a straw because he was drinking a milkshake. “Again, you shouldn’t be drinking a milkshake,” Watters said during the episode. “Milkshakes are for kids.” Belisario had also questioned Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) for their views on different rules.

When presented with the statement “men should not have male best friends,” Cruz responded that “Jesse needs a friend.” Kennedy said that “men shouldn’t eat kale at all” when asked by Belisario about men eating soup in public.

And Hawley replied “whatever Jesse says is good with me” in response to men not crossing their legs. Our journalism needs your support. Please subscribe today to NJ.com.
